The player controls a panda bear, ever traveling from left to right, following the mouse cursor for horizontal placement on the screen. Dangling above in the bamboo forest are Chinese lanterns which, when touched by a jumping panda, release mushrooms to be collected on the ground for points. If only things were that simple, however! Flying among the lanterns are birds which will injure the gentle panda, while boulders roll along the path as oncoming traffic on a crash course.
The panda's main defense is jumping out of the way, a defense that comes in two flavours -- a regular, somewhat puny hop, often inadequate to clear boulders, and a power jump that sees the panda curl up into a black and white ball and take off to the top of the screen in search of lanterns. Like in Gauntlet, the meter is always running (health diminishes on a regular and automatic basis), so the panda and its controller must ever be on the lookout for sporadic power-up jewels granting energy bonuses and temporary invulnerability.
